Following a spate of suspicious fires on the Sheepwash Nature Reserve, a local Councillor has called for Labour to finally act.
Councillor William Gill is calling for residents to back a campaign for better maintenance and the integration of fire breaks to the popular Tipton urban park.
Local people have raised concerns with the fires – some of which were less than 10 feet away from homes. And I am now starting a petition to improve maintenance of the area and an introduction of fire breaks.
I’ve spoken to residents on the Newtown estate who were living in fear; seeing walls of fire coming towards their properties. I can understand why they feel like this. These were people’s lives, memories and homes that were at risk.
I am starting a petition alongside local residents to force the Council to introduce fire breaks on the site and improve maintenance on our precious nature reserve.
We must have green spaces for people to enjoy, and that’s why I am determined to protect the sheepwash. I encourage all local people to get behind our campaign to protect the sheepwash.
